We are very happy with the remodel that Donald Hughes and Maple General Contractors performed on our 1300 square foot house in Old West Durham. The purpose of the remodel was to preserve the character of the mill house while altering its layout to use space more efficiently and integrate better with the back yard. This was a challenging project that involved moving several walls; replacing all windows; redoing all plumbing and electrical work; replacing some floors with hardwood and tile while preserving other hardwood floors; using several different types of wall finishes; installing high quality countertops and showers of quartz and Corian; new exterior siding; new insulation and crawlspace sealing; installing custom cabinets in five rooms; preserving old doors and installing fancy door casings; asbestos abatement; and extension of the rear of the house by three feet which necessitated rebuilding the frame in the attic and replacing part of the roof.
As one can imagine, this was a tremendous project for our small house. To make matters even more difficult, this project occurred from fall of 2021 through summer of 2022, a time when many construction projects were plagued by difficulties keeping crew on jobs and obtaining materials. From our homeowner's point of view, these matters were handled very smoothly by Maple's core crew which has worked steadily with Maple for decades, and by the sub-contractors with whom Maple has fostered good relationships.
We would definitely recommend Donald Hughes and Maple General Contractors for your construction project.
